Printed to honor the 90th anniversary of the Toppan Printing Company, the posters in this collection were selected by a panel of five accomplished Japanese graphic designers: Shigeo Fukuda, Ikko Tanaka, Makoto Nakamura, Kazumasa Nagai, and Yusaku Kamekura.
In the preface, Kamekura explains "This compendium of the 'best 100' Japanese posters of the post-war era has been compiled to record those works which set the artistic milestones of these 45 years. In one volume it affords the reader a comprehensive overview of the historical highlights of post-war Japanese poster art." It also serves as a showcase for the exceptional and varied printing capabilities of the Toppan Printing Company. From an intended edition of 200, it is uncertain how many were actually distributed.
