Yame, Fukuoka, is renowned for its production of cedar tree dust, which is used in the manufacturing of incense. During its heyday, over 40 watermills in the region were dedicated to supplying cedar dust to incense makers throughout Japan.

One notable watermill in Yame is Baba Suishaba, established in 1918. Over the past century, Baba Suishaba has perfected its grinding technique by utilizing a waterwheel to finely grind cedar leaves into a fine dust. By employing this traditional method, they have been able to transform the ground cedar leaves into exquisite, high-quality fragrant incense.
