Asano Les Petites Mains - Gardening Tool Set
Description
The Les Petites Mains gardening tool set is a flagship item from Tsubamesanjo toolmaker Asano Mokkousho.
These tools were designed by Sogetsu school ikebana master Keiko Yoshino and made specifically with indoor and city gardening in mind. The claw was also influenced by requests made by international customers - while the claw is typically used for weeding, this claw was redesigned to serve as a cultivator for planters. The quality and beauty of the tools far exceed cheaper rivals, and is a great option for beginners looking to cultivate their green thumb. It also makes a wonderful gift accompanied by our seed set and the Scallion Propogation Disc.
The handles are made from Niigata local snow beech as part of an initative called the Snow Beech Project. Snow beech trees were traditionally used to produce charcoal for heat, but as charcoal was replaced by coal and oil, the forests were abandoned. When trees were thinned to protect the forest, none of the material was used. The purpose of the Snow Beech Project is to ensure these materials are being used more effectively to prevent the wasting of limited resources, and to show gratitude for the blessings of nature. Snow beech trees from snowy Niigata Prefecture are characterized by their thick, straight trunks, fine-grained white wood, and low occurrence of false heartwood from growing while bearing heavy snow.
